sizetenplease on the AF1 and a New Generation

 In Features, Interviews

If you ever scrolled through a sneaker-related Instagram feed, you almost certainly got a glimpse of Massimo’s unmistakable sneaker shots under the name sizetenplease. On top of that, he’s managing Berlin’s Solebox store right now – and shared his take on the importance of the Air Force 1’s for today’s generation of younger heads with us.

Do you remember when you first encountered the AF1?
The Air Force 1 was like a daily company during my childhood, these were the first shoes you always could afford back then. The first time I saw them was on Nelly’s feet.

What’s the best thing to rock with a fresh pair of AF1s?
You can wear a pair of Air Forces for pretty much any occasion, if it’s a wedding or a funeral. Me personally, I prefer to wear some slightly wider pants and a wide top with mine. But the Air Force 1 is versatile and pretty easy to combine.

As you’re running one of Germany’s most popular sneaker stores right now, you surely see a lot of different Air Force fans on a daily basis. Do you observe a difference between generations when it comes to styling the shoe?
Definitely. The older generation just wants to own and wear the shoes, they don’t care that much about what kind of pants or tops they are wearing with them. But for the new generation, everything has to be matched. You’re wearing green and red Air Forces? Can‘t forget your Gucci joggers! Today, the whole outfit is just as important as the shoes. And if it’s not the outfit, then it’s a bag or any other kind of accessory.

Do you have any AF1 favorites yourself?
There are quite a few. The PlayStation ones in blue and black patent leather with the PlayStation logo… finding a pair is like hitting the lottery. And you probably need to hit the lottery for real to afford it. I also really like the “Linen” Air Force 1. To be honest, almost every day I’m coming across Air Force models from recent years which I’ve never seen before and that totally blow my mind.

What’s your prediction for the future of the Air Force 1? Where’s the shoe gonna be in 15 years for its 50th anniversary?
Basically right where it is today. It’s simply one of the most timeless sneakers of all time, thanks to its changeability. Just take a look at what kind of hype the VLONE collab caused, or the one with OFF-WHITE. I’m very curious to see what Nike has planned for the future, there’s still potential for more.
