2016 was a big year for Kendrick Lamar – both musically and in terms of footwear collaborations with long-time partners Reebok. Following on the heels of the recently completed “Red and Blue” capsule collection, the LA-based rapper put his aesthetic touches on another Reebok classic: The timeless Club C tennis shoe returns in a capsule edition with a denim upper in an acid-washed black-and-white colorway.
Dropping on Friday this week, the Reebok Classic x Kendrick Lamar Club C Capsule contrasts the striking acid-wash upper with street-savvy stylistic touches such as bright-red tabs on the tongues and heel. Constructed around an all-white cup sole, the classic sneaker features subtle references to Kendrick Lamar’s personal background, including highlights of the letters “K” and “O” in the Reebok logo tab, signifying his rapper handle “KDot”.
According to the official statement, the blend of black and white symbolizes unity and equality in society, while placing visible branding on the inside of the shoe’s tongues stands for anonymity and hidden depth. Any way you slice it, the result is a highly wearable, on-style shoe that will definitely put acid wash on the radar for 2017’s trend watch.
The Reebok Classic x Kendrick Lamar Club C Capsule will release on January 13 at select retailers and online in full family sizes at EUR 109.95 for the adult and EUR 50.00/EUR 70.00 for the infant/youth models.
