PUMA Suede 50 Made In Japan “The Collectors”
As you might have heard by now, the PUMA Suede is celebrating its 50th (!) anniversary in 2018 and PUMA has prepared a whole range of special releases to go along with this jubilee. After doing one model that pays tribute to the shoe’s cemented status in b-boy culture, now it’s time to honor those who couldn’t get enough of the PUMA Suede over several decades: the collectors. Traveling the world in order to get their hands on that one special pair, dedicated sneakerheads made this silhouette an evergreen in the culture we all hold dear to our hearts. So the German brand actually talked to some hardcore collectors to find out what makes the Suede special and then combine the best elements in one unique edition of this shoe.
Takaya Yamada, owner of Magforlia Sneaker Café in Japan bought his first pair almost 20 years ago at a Tokyo vintage spot and remembers: “I was totally impressed by the leather quality and the beautiful shape.” Some more input came from Measles of UK’s Forever Fresh: “The Yellow-Purple colorway captivates with its simplicity and is the most beautiful one ever to be produced”, he says. These and more anecdotes then inspired PUMA to craft the Suede 50 “The Collectors”, using the beloved Lakers-themed colorblocking in Heliotrope and Spectra Yellow. Adding to the limited edition’s exceptionality, this PUMA Suede was made in Japan with outstanding craftsmanship and uses a high-quality soft suede material that will make any seasoned sneaker connaisseur drool over the exceptional finishing. Three sets of laces in white, purple and gold match the shoe’s design and bring in some style versatility as the icing on the cake.
